Gameplay Balancing - PERKS / One Time Buy / New Arma players
Open, NormalPublic

Description

Due to changes in KOTH over time. There are still some people who play KOTH who remember different configurations for several options that have a direct affect on gameplay.

PERKS

Marksmen Perk – A change was made some time ago that was completely unnecessary. The marksmen perk used to allow access to marksmen rifles. This was changed sometime ago to also include scopes. This arbitrarily restricted scope choice. The Marksmen perk is required even when not using a marksmen rifle, even though it is simply down to player choice what scope you may wish on any weapon.. This has a direct affect on perk choice when going to the AO requiring an additional perk simply for scope. Possibly one of the most annoying changes ever made.

There is no need for a BIPOD perk. Every gun that can have a bipod should have one.

ONE TIME PURCHASE FOR WEAPONS

Titan AT + AA launchers being single purchase discourages their use. They were the strength of infantry units. Both for spawn defence and AO combat. There is a severely reduced use of these things in game. Tanks, Helicopter and jet advantages are greater with reduced use of titan launchers.
Saving up to permanent buy these was always a goal. They are excellent for base defence, when overwhelmingly other teams are controlling the match. In situations where people are not spending money, infantry with low expense can effect serious spawn defence. This single change has greatly effected infantry gameplay on militarised servers.

A gun is a gun, with it own characteristics SPMG and NAVID one time buys are arbitrary and unnecessary, if the argument is they are OP then simply make permanent buy prohibitorily expensive. ( A recent example of this is APDS becoming available for permanent purchase )

A permanent buy for Titan AT / AA / SPMG / Navid of $500,000 is not unreasonable. And would give people something to grind for.

In addition to all this, from discussions had with others, the idea that people play infantry servers because people get shit on when playing the militarised servers is quite common. New people to Arma get easy access to KOTH because no mods are required to download. Being good with vehicles and aircraft takes time and skill, it can simply be easier and less expensive to get a gun and go to the AO on infantry than having to learn the map and vehicle pro's / con's without getting shit on every time they leave spawn unable to get to the AO and without the money / experience to buy expensive AA or AT vehicles to be able to play in a match.

[ I've found something similar being discussed for different reasons here - https://dev.arma.su/T477 - But not the samething for the same reasons or conclusion. If posting this here is a duplication, please delete this post ]

Even if it costs 500k, the titan AA or AT just don’t fit perm buy option. Something like MAAWS shouldn’t be available for permanent purchase. On the other hand alamut is fine. MAAWS can one shot up to APC level, that includes AA aswell, which is pretty good, considering the guy in the tank might not even be aware of you. You also get 3 rockets, which is an overkill imo.

Sharp you replied to this post in January of this year. Since then the militarised servers that were left have now shrunk to maybe 1 that get's some people each day.

The fact of the matter is, the attitude of thinking that infantry are only supposed to go to the AO and to make the launchers single purchase only ment that infantry dont use them.

Infantry go play infantry servers, because they cant fight and don't have a chance to learn everything else. I want it to be harder to run vehicles on militarised servers, both Air and Ground. Give the infantry back the ease to fight against everything else. It is a rock papers scissors situation about game play.

There are some choices and decisions detailed in my original post that reference changes made along the way. The story of KOTH. Somethings were better in the past. Including the fucking safe zone.

It's too late to do anything now in my opinion, the vehicle side of the gamemode needed balancing years ago, since then, not much happened except parity thresholds which didn't/don't do big improvements. When i see some inf guy join a vehicle server, the first thing i hear half the time is, "its bullshit that we can get blasted from 3km by a tank", and with the current update interval, doubt anything will happen anytime soon.

I need to reiterate, infantry have a hard time learning arma or koth on full vehicle servers. It wasnt an issue in the past because there were nothing but fully militarised servers. But when the first infantry servers started going up people who don't know what they are doing and only go to the AO have a really hard time and simply go to do what every FPS is and they just go play infantry. Infantry used to be able to fight against ground AND air effectively. Removing the perm for the launchers changed the way in game infantry play on the fully militarised servers.

Give the infantry the strength they have had before back, so new people don't simply go play on the infantry servers.
